October 2021

Curated by Kelwin Coleman

Sex X Sex : At the end of the world, lust prevails.

Carnal pleasures are our life preservers in crisis. They provide a level of intimacy that helps us stay afloat while the storm passes. But, with half hidden faces and

house arrest isolation, sex during the covid-19 pandemic has been silenced and intimacy conflated with danger.

From behind closed doors and incognito modes we have heard of cancelled pride parades and marital hetero-bedroom confusion, not to mention people moving back in with their parents. The artists in Sex X Sex are asked to consider the impact that the pandemic-bound world has had on their sexuality. Preferably not explicitly. What is sex without sex? Outercourse is sexual activity that excludes penetrative sex, Intercourse; while latter is reserved behind closed doors and private web browsing, the former seems to extend to public arenas and daily interactions in the our modern pandemic world. When we experience pandemics that mute our sexual expressions, how much sex are we really having?

Kelwin Coleman graduated from the Tulane MFA program in 2021 and returned to his native New York. He hopes to connect artists and their communities. The  will have opening & closing parties, public and private viewing opportunities as well as Covid compliant show functions throughout the month. See you there!
